As we start to get familiar in spotting other peoples personalities we can now start to recognize those personalities that live within our-selves. Every Stereotypy, or Architype lives within us. But how do they manifest? By mood. We are a slave to our emotions and each subtle emotion has an architype that is just waiting to get out and cause you problems in the long run. Sin in haste and repent in leisure. There are so many phrases that warns us of this. You made your bed now you have to sleep in it. 30 seconds of fun and pay for it with your life. For a long time I have heard people tell me that they just want to let the Child within to have some fun. Wow, that is why they become a client of mine, or end up in front of a judge.
Well use and have been each of the Architypes that I talked about in the last post. But now I will jump in to the Limbic System and start talking about our default behaviour pattern.
The Limbic System is the part of the brain deep inside that looks like the Eye of Horus. It takes control of all your survival needs. This keeps memory and your emotions. Hence you get an event and bind it to an emotion you get memory. Memory creates a script that works for your survival. Hence you see an event and then act out what what worked in the past. This behaviour becomes our default behaviour. We may learn to be cunning and be calculated in our behaviour and use all the architypes to achieve our goal. BUT. When stress and the sense of urgency is too great, the brain does a reset to our default behaviour.
The Limbic System is the supercomputer within our system of grey matter. It is the Ferrari on the super-highway of the neural path ways. in comparison to our thinking, planning prefrontal lobe the old Amstrad, Commodore 64 super slow computer, the poor Model T ford on the same Highway. The Limbic System is driving you to act like your 10 year old version of your self while the prefrontal lobe is trying to put on the breaks and knows the regret that will happen and the consequences to come.
Wow. Did I just say 10 year old self? Yes.
The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. The parent that just gave in to a child having a temper tantrum just made a person that learns that by getting angry, screaming and making a show gets what they want. Now you have an adult that does the same thing, juts refined to match the issue.
The parent that gives the crying, sick or poor child everything they want, just made an adult that used their behaviour to manipulate others emotions to get what they want.
Every architype, personality, or stereotype has a payoff that gets the person what they want. However, others soon discover that that person does not know another script and get tyred of them fast, because they are taxing. It is all about them.
It takes a lot of mindfulness, meaningful meditation and mind experiments to get an over arching Archetype to dominate all the minor archetypes, to use them as tools. The Prefrontal Lobe needs to develop strong brakes or great steering for the super fast Limbic System. This is why purposeful action guided by mindfulness and practiced with mental experiments helps create an Adult Archetype that dictates what personality may have the stage. This should be practiced during the ages of personality formation. Between the age of puberty and 25 to 28 years old we learn our social skills. With good guidance from insightful parents the developing person uses this time to experiment with behaviour and personality.
If you take note, all the Heroes is every story is within this age span. All are developing an approach to situations and change their behaviour over time.
If you say, But what about Ripply in Aliens or Rambow? yes you are right those Heroes are on the tail end or past that age group. but look at their behaviour. These Heroes are in default mode, acting out what they know have worked in the past. Rambow is just making the war zone at home but really he does not develop, he comes to terms with. Where as Ripply is a person that must have one hell of a back story of survival, using her wits to get out of sticky situations and a talent for getting out of bad situations.
But now look at Luke Skywalker, young, he tries to defeat Darth Vader twice with the sward and then changes and throws his weapon away and wins, saving himself and his father.
Buddha is a young man when he discovers that suffering is guaranteed for all people. Then he discovers that suffering is minimalized by reducing attachment to transient emotions and unstable matter.
King Arthur in a young man when he becomes king by pulling the sward out of the stone. However the sward is but a symbol, I am yet to hear a story of him using the sward.
Mahatma Gandhi became a great man in his youth in Africa and that is his Hero’s journey where he did the experimentation, to become a master and acts with prepose in India.
Now us, at the end of this developmental age must work harder and longer to develop the skills that would have been easier in our youth. Just like learning a language in our youth is easy and hard at old age. The same goes wit respect to our behaviour. It is Only with hardship and disasters that we do change with force. To change that is driven from within comes at great cost and discipline. We feel that we are going mad and find our self looking back at our actions with sorrow. It hurts to me honest with our selves, but the reward is immense.
The addiction to suffering is comforting as we know what is coming and know how to deal with it. it is in our repertoire of Archetypes to survive our surroundings. Change is hard because this is an unknown that we must face when the suffering is gone. We are but reactionary actors, a slave to our surroundings. Others are pulling the strings to our emotions and this with where we become a slave to our 5 sensations. The 5 gateways to heaven or to hell. If we are a slave to those 5 gateways we are in hell. If we do not seek to feed these sensations to be happy the 5 sensations are gateways to heaven. The addiction to any one of these 5 sensations leads us into hell and the sensations will never be satisfied. Again The Limbic System is at play here, doing what works to survive emotional harm and perceived threats to our stability.

The Lesson of Monkey Magic.
There are many movies where the Hero meats them self in a bream like moment, or in books the Hero can talk to them-self.
Monkey Magic is a great TV show that was on air in the 70s and 80s. It was about a young person traveling to a far away land to fetch sacred scripts (From Memory). I really need to watch it again. This young person Tripitaka is traveling with 4 other characters, Monkey, Sandy (the fish), Pigsy (the pig), and Horse which was a dragon. Thus you can see the Hero never travels alone. However there are two sides to this story. the surface level and the underlying level that I find far more interesting.
You watch this band of misfits traveling from town to town always finding an adventure in each town. Monkey is always wanting to fight and have fun fighting, and at times he gets drunk. Furthermore he complains endlessly that he is board, Always starving for action. He can also summon his cloud to fly on which enhances his ego. He is mischievous and keeps himself amused by playing tricks on his fellow travellers, but never on Tripitaka. Monkey is you Knight in Shining Armor and trickster.
Then there is Pigsy. The great sloth, eater and womaniser. He will fight when provoked but would rather watch what happens. Pigsy is also fun loving and happy to get up to mischief with Monkey. He has a goal but is often led astray by food and female attention.
Sandy the depressant. He does not want to get involved with the problem of others. His eye is on the goal of getting to India to get the texts. He would rather run from a problem than get involved. He is a realest and can see problems ahead before the others.
Horse is just that. only seldom does he have a part to play in the story. But when he does he is there to help to carry the lode.
Tripitaka, The Master. The Wise young fool that offers help and looks for a peaceful resolution to a problem, even if it come after Monkey has to make peace with force first.
The Underlying Level
I feel that this is a story of one persons journey through life and the sacred texts are his own life story. Tripitaka is the Adult archetype that keeps the other archetypes he has within him to obey him. Situations get the best of him and thus you can see that some episodes are just about one of the other characters and Tripitaka is not seen much. That is because he has lost control and that archetype has taken control and he is lost in that character. But when Tripitaka has the presents of mind to take control of himself he must punish the monkey within to behave. He can only do this with his own magic of pray, meditation, or self reflection.
You can see the Amygdala at work in the three main characters Sandy (Flight), Monkey (Fight), Pigsy (Feed and the fourth F). Tripitaka represents the prefrontal lobe, trying to use reason and constantly trying to keep the others under control. I remember Monkey accusing Tripitaka of being slow at times. This illustrates my car or computer metaphor earlier.
I have fond memories of this show, I never thought it would impact my life as it did.
