Our Old Business Cards – History

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I was unpacking a box of stuff from my office and found 2 old business cards from when my Mother and Grandparents were alive. It was great to see something I forgot all about.

Business Card

This card was for back in the late 1970s. Darby and my Mum went into business together so that they could cover a wider service to customers. However, there was a bit of trouble with this.

Back then there was a Government Statute that called the Auctioneers and Agents Act, which they did not follow to the letter. This idea was great, but in the Act, at that time an Auctioneer or agent could not operate out of two offices or have their business split over two office addresses. Thus this venture lasted a week and was promptly dissolved when this law was discovered. There is a lot more to the story that I may talk about more latter.

Business Card

This card was used in the late 1990s after the Auctioneers and Agents Act was Deregulated, The law was dissolved. I wanted to start a business by my self but still be a part of the family business.

So I leased a shed in Kingswood while My Grandfather and Mother had the Auction house in Orange. I still drove the truck and supplied stock for both businesses. I held three auctions in Kingswood and it started making money. But I had to stop business there because My Grandfather had a stroke and I needed to shut up shop and move back home. I still used the shed for the rest of the term of the lease as a storage shed to hold stock in transit. I found this easier to chase around getting stock and then transport it to Orange on the weekends. I look back to those days with fondness and horror at the same time. I had no time for a social life and spent all my time loading and unloading the truck and the vast majority of time on the road.
